Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Avondale Park School and our school website.

Avondale Park School is a large primary school serving a multi-ethnic community in the heart of North Kensington and since September 2014 we have been federated with St Anne’s Nursery School. Please click here for federation home page.

At Avondale Park School we have two classes in each year group, with about 25 children per class. There are 26 teaching staff including the Head and Deputy Headteacher and 41 non teaching staff. We pride ourselves as teachers on aiming continually to develop and improve our teaching in order to make learning accessible and exciting for all pupils.

We are fortunate to have lots of space with excellent facilities, including 2 computer suites, interactive whiteboards in each classroom, two sports halls, and developing playgrounds

We are an inclusive school encouraging the academic, social and personal development of every child in a welcoming and secure environment. Visitors are always struck by the friendly but hardworking atmosphere created by staff and pupils and indeed, Ofsted commented on this.

As your child’s first teacher, you will be aware of your child's needs, strengths and weaknesses and we hope to build upon that experience through a strong home – school partnership. We are happy to discuss our approach to education with parents and hope that they will continue to be involved in their children’s education throughout their school career.

We look forward to meeting you. Please phone for an appointment.

Best wishes, Katy Blackler - Headteacher.

There was so much fabulous learning this week; it is impossible to mention it all but a few highlights for me included:
Science focus for Y1, Y3, Y4, Y5.
All classes concentrated on developing Science skills and some notable mentions should be the dissection of sheep hearts in Year 5 to find out how the heart works, as well as weird and wonderful experiments to test the strength of eggs in Year 3.
Art Focus for Year 4 in their scheme of work relating to their IPC project and linking with the artist Mondrian. Children worked so well in groups to recreate Mondrian’s abstract paintings representing countries of the world. Their description of the process showed a real understanding of the artist’s style and their interpretation of it.
Reception’ Classes’ Dinosaur Museum which was stunning. We were reminded of the Natural History Museum by their giant sculpture of a T Rex hanging from the ceiling, and the different aspects of their project on dinosaurs were varied and exciting. Thank you to all parents who visited and the ‘curators’ from Reception Classes who showed them around.  (See Twitter for more)
Wishing all families a happy Half Term. Hoping that the weather stays wonderfully warm; and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 5th June at 8.50am.
Tricia’s Year 1 Class treated us to a special assembly this week: they described some of the learning completed in the last term in reading, writing and maths. They gave us lots of top tips for remembering diagraphs and trigraphs as well as strategies for adding two numbers. We saw a presentation of learning from throughout the year – and how impressive was that? So much and so varied….All was presented with clear and loud voices. Well done to you all!
The Extended School Clubs provides a varied programme of activities. For more information regarding Extended School Clubs please click here.
